What is Opus Dei?

Opus Dei’s mission is to promote a profound awareness of the universal call to holiness among men and women from all walks of life, moving them to lead a life consistent with their faith and to contribute to the evangelization of every sphere of society. In short, its mission is to spread the message that all Christians have been called by God to seek holiness both in and through their daily work, family life and social relations as well as to make the Gospel known throughout the world.

To follow this spirituality means to exercise human and Christian virtues whilst carrying out one’s work in the ordinary course of one’s life, as co-creator and co-redeemer with God, following the example of Jesus Christ.

A universal call

Don’t let your life be barren. Be useful. Make yourself felt. Shine forth with the torch of your faith and your love. With your apostolic life, wipe out the trail of filth and slime left by the corrupt sowers of hatred. And set aflame all the ways of the earth with the fire of Christ that you bear in your heart.
St. Josemaría Escrivá
